It is said that the Périgord “is first visited by mouth”. Gastronomy is an integral part of the charm of our region. It has been famous for more than a century. It is therefore not by chance that the Périgord specialities seduce the whole world. It is difficult to resist foie gras, duck confit, duck breasts, fried sarladaises potatoes, walnut tarts, truffles, Cabécou…

The recipes are simple, gourmet, generous. They are a delight for the whole family and the magic of holidays in the Dordogne. Here, the pleasure comes from the plate, from a good table and its conviviality. To take advantage of this, many meetings and events take place throughout the year. Great food, markets, and producer fairs showcase the richness of the regional gastronomy. The Dordogne is also home to several Michelin-starred chefs.

Swimming

Rivers, wild streams, waterfalls, developed beaches, ponds, nautical bases or water parks, the department of the Dordogne is full of places where young and old can refresh themselves, have fun and enjoy water activities whether in the Vézère Valley or in the neighbouring Dordogne Valley.

From the Vézère a few steps away from the campsite, les Canoës du Bournat offers different routes where you can reach or admire the great sites and vilalges of the Périgord : Montignac-Lascaux, la Roque Saint Christophe, la Madeleine, Limeuil…

You will find swimming spots in all the villages it passes through: Terrasson, Montignac, Saint-Léon sur Vézère, Les Eyzies de Tayac and Limeuil where it joins the Dordogne. The latter, as the cleanest river in France and the only one to be classified as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, is appreciated by swimmers and fishermen.

In addition to its bathing points, you will find several water parks in the area such as Jacquou Parc only 10 minutes from the Camping du Bournat.

Outdoor sports

The unspoilt nature of the Vézère Valley, with its rivers, paths and forests, makes it an ideal destination for outdoor sports. Canoeing, kayaking, paddling, swimming, mountain biking, running, Nordic walking, horse riding or even micro lighting are all ways to exercise, to test new sensations and to admire in a different way the richness, diversity and beauty of the landscapes of the Périgord.

Admire the landscape

You will find in the Dordogne a diversity of landscapes almost without equal in France. Describing all of its natural panoramas is a difficult task. Another characteristic of this region, although inhabited for a long time, is that it has many natural sites that have been preserved by man.

One thing is sure, you will be charmed by its valleys, its scenery sculpted by its many rivers, its meadows dotted with flowers, its wooded gorges, its expanses of well-preserved and fleshy greenery, its villages, some of which are among the most beautiful villages in France, its cliffs sheltering in turn dwellings or decorated caves.

And each tourist site in the Dordogne reveals or magnifies an already breath taking natural setting. Castles such as Beynac and Castelnaud stand proudly on hillsides, the whitish ruins of the Château de Commarque seem to spring from a rocky spur and stand out against the bright green of the surrounding meadows.

The climate of the Dordogne is oceanic. The summer period is hot and dry. Temperatures rise offering beautiful sunny patches but remain pleasant, especially at night when the thermometer goes down.

Another asset of our region is the absence of tiger mosquitoes offering the assurance of peaceful days, evenings and nights, and to fully enjoy the joys of outdoor holidays.

Where is the Dordogne?

The Dordogne is a department in the Périgord, itself divided into several colours according to the shades of colour in its landscapes.

It is located in the South West of France in the New Aquitaine region, 2 hours from Bordeaux, 1 hour from Agen, 2 hours 45 minutes from Toulouse. The Dordogne is home to the Dordogne Valley and the Vézère Valley.
